G & W Furniture: a fire alarm upgrade without closing the showroom
G & W Furniture needed to bring an ageing fire alarm system up to date. The difficulty was doing that without turning a working showroom into a building site: customers were still visiting daily, and the character of the space meant extensive cabling and disruptive first-fix work weren’t a realistic option.

The problem with a conventional upgrade
A standard wired replacement would have meant running new cable runs through finished ceilings and walls across an occupied retail space. Beyond the mess, that kind of work is hard to schedule around trading hours, and it risks marking or altering a showroom that’s part of the business’s own presentation to customers.

What we did

We designed and installed a wireless fire alarm system, including a touchscreen control panel that gives staff a straightforward way to operate and monitor it day to day. Moving away from a wired installation meant the project could go ahead with far less disruption than the alternative, and without the cabling work that would otherwise have affected how the showroom looked.
Scheduling mattered as much as the system itself. Our engineers planned the installation around G & W Furniture’s normal trading hours, working through the space in stages rather than closing it down, so the showroom stayed open and customers were largely unaffected throughout.

The result

G & W Furniture now has a modern, wireless-controlled fire alarm system with a touchscreen interface staff can operate confidently. The installation went ahead without the business needing to close its doors or turn customers away, and without the wall and ceiling disruption a wired retrofit would have brought.
For any business trading from customer-facing premises, this is usually the real question behind a fire alarm upgrade: not just whether the new system is compliant, but whether getting there is going to cost you trading days. With the right system and the installation planned properly, it doesn’t have to.
