Chief Fire Safety designs, installs, tests and maintains fire protection for commercial buildings. We work directly with the people who hold responsibility for a building, whether that’s a business owner, a facilities manager, a landlord or a managing agent looking after a portfolio of sites, and we cover the practical side of fire safety: the systems that need fitting, the tests that need doing, and the records that prove it.

About us
What we do
Our work covers the full range of measures a commercial building depends on for fire safety, rather than a single product or service. That includes fire risk assessments, fire alarm systems (design, installation, commissioning, servicing, monitoring and zone plans), fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, fire doors and fire-stopping and passive fire protection. Many clients also ask us to look after commercial intruder alarms and monitoring alongside their fire safety work, so that one contractor is responsible for both.
These measures are connected in practice even when they are sold as separate products. A fire risk assessment identifies what a building needs; that finding shapes how an alarm is zoned, how many extinguishers are sited and where, and whether existing fire doors are adequate or need attention. Handling all of it ourselves means the person who assessed the risk, the person who designed the system and the person who services it afterwards are working from the same information about your building, not passing a job between separate firms who never see each other’s paperwork.
For older and listed buildings, that connection matters even more. Detection, doors and emergency escape lighting all have to be specified around the constraints of the structure rather than fitted as standard, and our heritage and listed building fire safety work is planned with that in mind from the first site visit.
Who we work with
We work with offices, retail premises, warehouses and distribution sites, manufacturing and industrial businesses, hospitality venues, and care, education and healthcare settings, along with the landlords, property managers and facilities management companies responsible for them. Our industries and premises pages set out how the approach differs by building type: a warehouse with high-level racking and forklift charging points needs a different mix of protection to a hotel with sleeping guests, and a school has different escape and supervision needs again.
Property managers and landlords with sites spread across several of our coverage areas are welcome to bring us in on a portfolio basis rather than site by site. Consistent servicing dates and certificates across a group of buildings are far easier to manage with one contractor than several.

How we work
Most jobs start with a conversation about the building: what it’s used for, what’s already installed, and what prompted the enquiry, whether that’s a new fit-out, an insurer’s requirement or an existing system that’s fallen behind on servicing. From there we usually visit the site to survey what’s there before we price anything, because a fire alarm design or a fire door schedule that’s right for one building is rarely right for another.
We design and install fire alarm systems to BS 5839-1, emergency lighting to BS 5266-1, and service fire extinguishers in line with BS 5306-3. Where intruder alarms are part of the job, we work to the relevant standards for system design and monitoring, including PD 6662. These standards exist to set out what a properly designed and maintained system looks like, and working to them is simply how the job gets done correctly, not a badge we’re claiming.
Since October 2023, changes brought in under the Building Safety Act 2022 require the responsible person for any non-domestic premises in England to keep a written record of the fire risk assessment and the fire safety arrangements in place, regardless of how many people work there. We build our reports, certificates and test records with that requirement in mind, so what you’re given after a job is something you can hand to an enforcing authority or an insurer without having to chase us for more information afterwards.
Where an existing system can be repaired, extended or brought back into proper working order rather than replaced outright, we’ll say so. Not every finding from a survey needs a full replacement to fix, and we would rather tell you that than sell you more than the building needs.
